The chairman of the Massachusetts Cannabis Control Commission, Steven Hoffman, estimates that the state’s first recreational marijuana stores could be open within the next two weeks. A specific date has not been provided.
A few minor items still need to be put in place such as adding inventory from retailers into the seed-to-sale system, MassLive reports. The testing labs also need to have their licenses completely in place. Some locations still need final inspections.
Hoffman said, “We’re getting really close but those are the steps that have to happen before the ‘commence operation’ certificates are issued. Everything’s happening as quickly as we can.”
Regarding the opening of retail stores, Hoffman said, “Frankly, we issue a certificate of ‘commence operations,’ it’s not our decision when the store opens. It’s the licensees’ decision. But we’re going to have these certificates of ‘commence operations’ done in the next week or two.”
