Leicester Company Becomes First to Get Retail Marijuana License

Cannabis States

Cultivate is a medical marijuana dispensary in Leicester. It has just been given its recreational marijuana operations license. The vote to grant the license was unanimous.

Recreational marijuana is taxed at 17-percent plus an optional local tax of 3-percent in Massachusetts, Mass Live reports. July 1 was the first day that recreational sales could take place. Cultivate, however, cannot make legal recreational marijuana sales yet – there are still a few regulatory procedures that must take place first.

Before their license is finalized and they can begin recreational sales – the Cannabis Control Commission must review their operations to ensure 100-percent compliance.

Cultivate also hopes its manufacturing and cultivation license applications will be approved.

In its application, Cultivate indicated that it plans to forward 10-percent of its net profits to local charities once the company turns a profit.

It is unsure when Cultivate will be able to make its first sale – but it is expected to be soon.
