The initiative to legalize recreational marijuana in Massachusetts has raised nearly $3 million. The biggest supporter coming from a Washington, D.C. donor – New Approach PAC. Those opposing marijuana legalization in Massachusetts, including Governor Charlie Baker and Mayor Marty Walsh, have only raised $363,000.
Both sides provided financial disclosure statements to Massachusetts, according to Boston.com. The campaign supporting the marijuana legalization initiative is named “Yes on 4” and will be advertising on television.
Yes on 4 has hopes to raise a total of $3 million before the election. The campaign has been working on its efforts since 2014, having raised over $2.7-million since. New Approach PAC is connected to the Peter Lewis family. Lewis was the former chairman and CEO of Progressive Insurance, who was an amputee and medical marijuana user.
