With the new year comes a new law in Massachusetts – the legalization of medical marijuana. As of Jan. 1, the Massachusetts Department of Public Health will have till May 1 to create regulations for dispensaries and amounts of marijuana that patients can possess.

The medical marijuana law was approved through Question 3 in November. The law allows people with qualifying medical conditions to use marijuana for medical conditions such as AIDS, Parkinson’s Disease, and cancer.

The new law allows up to 35 dispensaries to open in 2013, but the law could be changed to allow more after 2013.
